English Proficiency Exam
What is Proficiency Exam?
We administer the Proficiency Exam to assess students' English proficiency levels and determine whether they possess sufficient language skills to commence their studies in departments where English is the medium of instruction.
What does the proficiency exam test?
The Proficiency Exam evaluates Listening, Reading, and Writing skills as well as Use of English.
What does the exam cover?

Is it mandatory to take the exam?
No. Newly registered students have the option to take the exam.
Those who do not take the proficiency exam will study in the preparatory school for one year.
Is the exam free of charge?
The first attempt is free for all students. Subsequent attempts require a fee of 1000 TL.
When is the exam held?
The proficiency exam is usually held 10-15 days before the academic term starts in Fall.
The end-of-year proficiency exam is held at the end of the academic year, usually in June or July.
Students are requested to check the academic calendar for the exam dates.
What is the End-of-Year Proficiency Exam?
The End-of-Year Proficiency Exam is conducted for students who have completed one year (maximum two years) of study in the prep school and meet the following criteria at the end of the final module:
- Students must have attained either a B1 level with an average grade of 70, or
- Achieved a B2 level with an average grade of 60.
Important Notes:
- The end-of-year exam contributes 60% to the final grade required to complete the prep school.
- Students must score at least 60 on the exam for their grade to be considered for passing the prep school along with module averages which contributes 40% to the overall grade.
- The overall grade must not be below 60 for the students to finish prep year.
